PLS Civil Engineering Increase On-Site Automation 10-fold
CLIENT: pls civil engineering

PLS Civil Engineering have, like many in the industry, sought to address the intrinsic challenges of delivering high complexity, fast-paced work within the confines of inefficient and manual, paper-based processes.
PLS initially trialled innDex’s solution on their Ilford Stations Refurbishment Project. Working for Principal Contractor VolkerFitzpatrick, they have helped support the project in the refurbishment of an existing station in a live operating environment. PLS have completed civils, structural steel and cladding works for a temporary ticket office, in addition to the entire station civils package. As a result of a successful trial on the Ilford project, PLS have gone on to implement innDex on more than 10 projects across a broad range of diverse sectors including pipelines and residential housing developments.
solution
PLS have deployed a comprehensive suite of tools across their sites:
• Digital on-boarding
• Access security & time management
• Familiarisation
• Key Performance Indicators
• Daily diaries
• Close call and hazard spotting
benefits
PLS have realised significant benefits on the sites where innDex has been deployed that touch on all parts of their operation. The initial trials have been so successful, and delivered such value, that PLS are now implementing innDex as their single solution for a document management system. By automating tasks that are otherwise manual and time consuming, innDex has enabled PLS to realise benefits to productivity, cost, quality and compliance. This has led to a significant reduction in waste for PLS across all aspects of their digital management. For example, the team spend 80% less time searching for information: meaning they can make informed and accurate decisions quickly, enabling them to meet the demands of a dynamic and challenging programme of works.
feedback
PLS have been deploying innDex on new sites as they have seen benefits on existing sites. Denis Cormican, Managing Director at PLS, said:
“PLS are deploying innDex on all of our sites going forward. By using innDex, we are able to derive significant benefit which is also shared with our clients.”
The PLS site team have reported that the level of automation resulting from the implementation of innDex has removed the need for low value paperwork and admin tasks, freeing them up to focus on high value work. Less time spent looking for information has meant more time adding value to the project, enhancing quality and productivity.
