innDex enables collaborative working – anything can be done. The platform is improving constantly and is affordable. We’re really happy with the system and our people on site are happy too. Although they usually don’t appreciate change, they see the value innDex brings in streamlining processes and speeding up their time to clock in and out of site, allowing them to start working sooner, get the job done quicker and go home earlier.

Siemens Mobility Limited has been awarded contracts to deliver new signalling infrastructure work within Wales, Devon and Cornwall by Transport for Wales and Network Rail respectively. This will cover the renewal and replacement of all lineside signalling equipment, with the control of the signalling being transferred to integrated control centres that will ensure the safe running of trains, improve infrastructure reliability and boost operational flexibility of the railway.

To help with some upcoming works, Siemens Mobility initially reached out to innDex as a SME local to Wales to implement a digital solution to improve their site access control and to have 24/7 availability without the need for an operative employed to occupy a desk.

The Site Access Control solution allows the Siemens Mobility operatives to sign in (and out) before they undertake their Safe System of Work briefing within 50 metres of an access point. Also, because a photo of the access gate is required, the management at Siemens Mobility knows that the team is in the right place as planned.

The innDex solution has been developed further by Siemens Mobility by implementing a pre-induction process. This allows more valuable information to be securely collected, and records such as health assessments and competencies (including expiry dates) are easily accessible on the innDex platform.

The innDex Fatigue Management feature being used by Siemens Mobility allows shift scheduling and monitoring of operatives on site to make sure Working Hours Policies are not breached, with alerts being set out automatically when an individual’s shift is about to finish. This is all in line with the new Fatigue Risk Management Systems by Network Rail (NR/L2/OHS/003). By securely gathering the appropriate information about each operative on a project, the management team can monitor and reduce the workforce’s carbon footprint as well as individuals’ commute times, contributing to managing fatigue across projects.

Site Messaging enables smoother communication, keeping everyone on and off site connected and informed at all times. One example is that Siemens Mobility distributes safety-related information to the workforce – which can be accessed at any time, anywhere – keeping a register of individuals who have viewed and accepted their understanding.

Everything is viewable through dashboards to give project teams a holistic view of all data being collected. This results in more accurate and automated KPIs to give full transparency over what is happening on site at any given time: for example, number of hours on site, home location of operatives who have been inducted in relation to the project location, and number of first aiders within the team.

Siemens Mobility is working together with innDex to add further value and new features to the platform.

One thing that is being reviewed is the usage of Transport Management for taking deliveries on site. This will help Siemens Mobility to benchmark their carbon footprint and plan accordingly to reach their target of being net zero by 2030.

It has been a pleasure to work alongside Trevor, his input has been invaluable in shaping some of the tools that make up the innDex toolbox today. With Siemens we adopted the “partnership” approach, as we do with the rest of our clients - brainstorming ideas and developing solutions. Trevor’s extensive industry knowledge and experience has been key and my hope is that it continues on this trajectory; improving the platform for Siemens and the rest of our industry partners.
