NEIL'S PERSPECTIVE:

When I joined BRG Technologies as Head of Health, Safety & Well-being, one of my primary goals was to elevate our health and safety practices to the next level while maintaining the rapid pace of delivery that sets us apart in off-site construction. Having spent nearly 30 years leading HSE programmes in manufacturing, construction, and engineering, I’ve seen how innovation can drive meaningful change in a complex industry.

In 2022, we began collaborating with innDex to support our ‘Next Gear’ initiative, which was designed to prevent complacency and ensure continuous improvement in health and safety. This programme had already achieved significant success, including a 55% reduction in minor injuries and a 75% reduction in eye injuries over a 12-month rolling period. innDex provided a critical solution to help us streamline workflows, enhance oversight, and ensure compliance across our rapidly growing operations.

THE CHALLENGES

With our business expanding, we recognised the need to take our construction project management processes to a higher level without adding strain on our team or subcontractors. Key challenges included tracking personnel and working hours effectively, managing RAMS efficiently, and ensuring comprehensive oversight across multiple sites. To address these needs, we required a system that aligned with our commitment to innovation in off-site construction—an approach that emphasises speed, efficiency, and safety.

Following successful implementation at seven active sites, our manufacturing centre, and our Cheltenham headquarters, we have introduced facial recognition technology to further simplify and enhance the clocking-in process. This ensures even greater accuracy while saving our site managers and health and safety team countless hours of administration.

THE BENEFITS

Additionally, having an accurate, real-time record of site personnel has improved safety outcomes—vital in emergency situations like fire evacuations, where precise headcounts are critical.

Regular action plan meetings have returned positive changes and improved the way the platform performs producing ‘Live’ data in many formats such as dashboards and visual information graphs using ‘Power BI’.
